Mahopac Lake, NY has one of the healthiest smallmouth fisheries in the northeast. It’s hard not to love this lake. It’s one of those places you can easily catch 20 fish in a couple hours. I literally got tired of catching them and had to take a break. Hard life, right?
The sizes are not bad either. The biggest of the day was between 4-5 pounds. That’s a great fight for a smallmouth on ultra-light tackle. Pound for pound these fish are much stronger than largemouth. They pull hard and they jump out of the water. The kids got to catch some too.
